Obituary of Dora Kereluke

November 6, 1915 – May 26, 2015 Dora Kereluke passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Regina General Hospital with her son by her side. She was 99 years old. She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, six sisters and her husband Metro who passed away in 2000. She is survived by her son Terrance (Janet) of Calgary and two grandsons Anthony (Khadija) of Calgary and Bryan (Aki) of Calgary and great-grand children Luna and Sky. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dora was born and raised on a farm a few miles south west of Sheho Saskatchewan, where she and her husband Metro Kereluke attended school. On June 15, 1941 Dora married Metro and shortly thereafter in 1942, Metro joined the RCAF. Dora was able to accompany him to Toronto where he spent some time in basic training until he was posted to Sackville, NB where he took a radio course. She then joined him in Clinton, Ontario where he trained in radar. When Metro was posted overseas, Dora worked in Toronto until his return in 1945. Following the end of war, Metro attended the University of Saskatchewan and Dora continued working at various jobs in order to permit him to remain in the university until he completed his studies. Upon completion of Metro’s university education, they relocated to Regina. Dora became active in the Ukrainian community early in life. She was a just teenager when she joined the Ukrainian Women’s Association in Sheho and remained a member of the club until her later years. She served on many committees of the association and for many years occupied the position of treasurer of the local club. She also became involved in the local Ukrainian Orthodox church. For several years she served in the sisterhood of the church of which she remained as an honorary member until her death. For a good part of her life she sang in the alto section of the church choir. She was always available for church events and enjoyed making traditional Ukrainian food for fowl suppers and other church functions. She also actively participated in other diverse activities such as canvassing for the Canadian Red Cross and the United Appeal Dora regularly donated blood to the Canadian Red Cross and was recognized for her dedication to that cause. She was also an avid bowler and bowled in a Regina Women’s League for many years. Dora’s health took a turn for the worse about fifteen years ago when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, a condition that progressively worsened. Dora was a very dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a kind and loving person and gave herself freely too many causes that she came across for which she will long be remembered. She was particularly proud of and attached to her son and daughter-in-law Janet and two grandsons Anthony and Bryan. May she rest in peace in the care of our Lord.
