Loretta Bankowski

Obituary of Loretta Joyce Bankowski

On Monday, May 25, 2015, Mom’s long battle with cancer ended peacefully. Loretta was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Clara Sjolie and her sister, Gloria Soare. She is lovingly remembered by her three children; Pam (Rob) McGauley of Quesnel, British Columbia and their children, Landon and Christopher; Brendan (Erin) Bankowski of Calgary, Alberta and their children, Jake and Leo and Kynan Kindopp of Regina, Saskatchewan and her children Mason and Ansley. Loretta is also survived by her brothers; Alvin (Helen) Sjolie of Carberry, Manitoba, Clifton Sjolie of Sturgis, Saskatchewan; sisters, Delores (Bob) Cutler of Carlyle, Saskatchewan and Adeline (Ray) McComb of Vancouver, British Columbia as well as many nieces and nephews. Loretta was born on January 11, 1942 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan and grew up on a farm near Sturgis. Loretta began grade one at Corofin School where she rode horse back to and from school. She then attended Sturgis Elementary School and Composite High School. She was very involved in all sports, was a member of the 4-H Grain Club and Canadian Girls in Training. Loretta graduated in 1960 and attended Robertson Business College in Regina. Loretta worked as a bookkeeper for most of her life and enjoyed all of the people she met. She loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren who meant the world to her. Loretta had a special talent as she was very creative - she loved all types of art, especially acrylic painting and stained glass. Mom loved to knit and crochet; she donated many of her blankets and clothing to the less fortunate. Mom loved to shop which was evident by the size of her closet and she always tried to keep up with the latest trends. A very special thank you to the nurses and all of the staff at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the excellent care they provided to Mom and her family. A private family celebration of her life will be held in Sturgis at a later date. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing so may make a donation in memory of Loretta to the Salvation Army Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4R 8P6.
