Sister Oberhoffner

Obituary of Sister Louise Oberhoffner

Sister Louise Oberhoffner died peacefully at Santa Maria Senior Citizens’ Home on Friday, May 29, 2015. Born in Regina in 1928 to Angela (Simon) and Joseph Oberhoffner, Sister was predeceased by brothers Julius (Boyd) and Joseph and sister Agnes Ehman. She is survived by her sister Angela Terrett; her brother David; sister-in-laws Frankie, Frances and Doreen, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews and their children. Louise attended Regina Separate Schools and Sacred Heart Academy where she met the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, whom she joined in 1947, receiving the name Sister Mary Angela. Sister went on for professional training and taught elementary and high school in Wolseley, Regina, Lebret and Fort Qu’Appelle. After a successful battle with TB at the sanatorium in Fort Qu’Appelle, Louise again took up her studies, including theology, and spent some years in Rome helping Sisters in the Tertianship program there. Subsequently Louise returned to teaching in Canada, served in several houses as local superior, did parish work, and was Diocesan correspondent for the Prairie Messenger. She eventually had to seek nursing care in Santa Maria Home where she lived for over eight years. The Sisters are most grateful for the loving care Louise received there. We remember Sister especially for her warm concern for others, her love of travel, her rousing laughter and generosity without measure. May she rest in peace. Sister’s funeral Mass will be in the chapel at Santa Maria, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina, SK., on Wednesday June 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. Donations in memory of Louise may be made to the Mission Fund of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, 310 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 0G7.
