Obituary of Dorothy Elsie Metz

Dorothy Elsie Metz (nee Veer), born May 22, 1922 passed away peacefully with family at her side on May 31, 2015. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 56 years, Milford, in 2009; sons Darrell and Timothy; brothers Edwin and Wes Veer; sister-in-law Louise Metz and brothers-in-law Leland and Laverne Metz. She is survived by her children Linda Lucyk, Barry, Cheryl (Randy) Birchard, Kevin (Dixie), Jacqueline (Micheal) Hall; her sisters Leona (Mac) Paton and Grace Cook; her brother Clifford (Sharon) Veer; her sisters-in-law Gwen (Edwin) Veer and Gwen (Wes) Veer; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and in recent years took great delight in seeing her great grandchildren. Mom was a wonderful, creative cook and further expressed her creativity in the many beautiful wedding, anniversary and birthday cakes she made for family and friends. She was also an expert seamstress, producing a multitude of professionally made garments ranging from her own wedding dress to an endless supply of children’s clothes. Her leisure time was often spent reading a good book or tending her flower garden where she lovingly nurtured her favourite flowers, roses. She worked hard as a farm wife and mother of seven children and has earned her rest. We shall miss her beautiful smile and joyful laugh. The family would like to thank her caregivers both at Santa Maria and previously Kelsey Manor for their loving care, along with Dr. Lotz for the many years he cared for Dorothy. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 5, 2015 at 10 AM, 1021 McCarthy Blvd North. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
