Obituary of Thomas Ernest Tekahentake Dore

February 12, 1950 – June 7, 2015 Early Sunday morning, June 7th, 2015 Tom passed away at the age of 65. He was pre-deceased by his father, Gerard Doré, and his brother Gerard Doré. He leaves to remember him; his loving mother, Cecile Phillips Doré; his wife Dawne Peterson; his children Claire Doré and Simon Dyck; his siblings Teresa (David Flemming), John (Fran) and Adele, and many others. Tom was born in Lachine, Quebec, February 12, 1950. He grew up in LaSalle, graduating from Loyola High school in 1968. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts at Loyola College, in 1972, then continued his education as one of the first students in the First Nations Summer Law Program at the Native Law Centre at the University of Sask., and completed a Law degree from University of Western Ontario, being admitted to the bar in 1977. Tom moved to Yellowknife, NWT, to work with the Federal Department of Justice as a prosecutor. In 1980, he relocated to Regina, where he worked with the Province, heading the Treaty Indian Land Entitlement Program. In 1982, he turned to practicing law, as a partner in the Shillington Dore Law offices, and began instructing at Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, which is where he spent most of his working years. Tom was well known for his passion for classic cars, his search for a good Montreal all dressed pizza, telling a good story, or bad joke. The family would like to thank those who patiently helped care for Tom over the past number of years, including; Campbell Care Home, Pasqua Hospital ward 4D, and Extendicare Parkside south wing. An informal reception will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK., On Friday June 12, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. A formal service will be held in Lachine, Quebec, Sunday, June 14, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity that is near to your heart.
