Obituary of Kathleen Margaret Goertzen

KATHLEEN (KAY) MARGARET GOERTZEN née NEELY Kathleen (Kay) Margaret (née Neely) passed away very peacefully at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the age of 85 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Margaret; husband Frank of 57 years of marriage; brother Don; and numerous brothers-in-law. Kay leaves to mourn her sons, Terry (Ethel), Leon (Janey) and René (Deb); and daughter Roxene; seven grandchildren, Sandi, Sarah (Spiros), Angela (Dale), Warren (Julie), Jason (Shelley Fahlman), Jared (Sarah) and Scott. She was so proud of her twelve great-grandchildren, Jemma, Caleb, Levi, Josiah, Iliana, Cody, Shenise, Nolan, Lauren, Avery, Alexia and Estella. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Evelyn (Alf Stork), Linda and JoAnn; and her sisters-in-law, Anne Neely, Violet Young, Viola Denluck, Evelyn Goertzen, Hilda Goertzen and Tina Hill. Kay was born in Maple Creek, SK on October 19, 1929. She attended Carnagh School. Kay worked at Cypress Hills Park, where she met Frank. After their wedding they moved to Prince Albert where Frank was employed with the Department of Natural Resources. In 1957, Frank and Kay moved to Regina. Frank and Kay enjoyed square dancing, camping and were Regina Pats season ticket holders. In her later years, Kay took joy in watching and following the Toronto Blue Jays. We believe that she’s probably got a sweet upper deck seat now. Kay also enjoyed sewing, reading, crosswords and was a member of the Zion United Church quilting group. As a member of Zion United, you would find her voice in the choir, where she loved to sing. Kay moved to Benson Manor in 2009. If she wasn’t in her suite, you would find her in the “jigsaw puzzle room”. You wouldn’t imagine how many puzzles Kay completed. She enjoyed the fellowship of Benson and we always had to wish her luck on bingo night. Interment will be held at Regina Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. (please meet at the cemetery gate) with the Funeral Service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Donations may be made in memory of Kay to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917 Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2P6 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 279-3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8. As a family, we wish to express our thanks to the doctors and caring staff of Unit 3D at the Pasqua Hospital.
