Obituary of Lena Temreck

LENA TEMRECK née LYSIUK November 21, 1917 – July 7, 2015 We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother ("Baba") Lena Temreck on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the age of 97 years. Lena is survived by her daughter, Delores (Dale); grandsons, Brad and Jason (Elena); granddaughter, Cindy (Adam); great-grandchildren, Evan, Emma and Luca; sister, Frances (Frank), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lena was predeceased by her parents; three sisters; three brothers; husband, John; daughter, Marie; son, Ronald; and daughter-in-law Patricia. Lena was born on November 21, 1917 in White Beech, Saskatchewan to Nicholas and Agata Lysiuk. Lena met her late husband, John Temreck, at a show in White Beech in 1939 and they were married the following year on September 28, 1940 at St. Johns Church in Arran, Saskatchewan. They had three children and eventually settled in Regina. Lena started working at McGavins Bakery in 1952 for 24 years before retiring due to poor health. She enjoyed her job as well as her coworkers and shared many good stories over the years. Lena loved to keep busy. Even in the rare times you would catch her sitting down to watch her “shows” aka soap operas, she would still be knitting or crocheting something for the grandchildren or the church. Lena loved to socialize and her door was always open to anyone, at any time. Lena also enjoyed many sports. She was part of a bowling league for many years. She was also an avid golfer, outplaying her grandsons and even scoring a hole in one! Lena loved children. She made many presents, either by sewing or knitting, and anytime she had little visitors she made sure they left with mouths full of candy or baking and pockets full of money. Lena had a terrific smile, in fact, anyone who knows her will remember that first about her. Even in her final days, Lena kept a positive attitude and was still able to smile. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lena may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3. The family wishes to thank the many people who took care of Lena, including the staff at Broadway Terrace and Parkside Extendicare for their kind and loving care of our dear Lena. Prayers will be held on Monday, July13, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Funeral Service will be held at St. Basil’s Ukranian Catholic Church, 1757 Toronto Street on Tuesday July 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM with Rt. Reverend Vladimir Mudri presiding.
