Obituary of Donna Marie Smith

Smith, Donna Marie June 3, 1949 – July 25, 2015 Donna passed away peacefully with family by her side. Predeceased by father Gordon Smith (1994). Left to cherish her memory are mother Thelma (Regina), brother Dick (Pam), nieces, Jackelyn and Michelle, all of Duncan, BC. Remembered by many relatives, godchildren and friends. Donna was born in Weyburn (SK), spending her formative years in Summerberry (SK) and then Rowatt (SK). Donna attended South Regina School (Sherwood District) and Sheldon Williams Collegiate (Regina) before graduating from University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus (1970). Donna began her teaching career in rural Saskatchewan (Marengo; Simpson), returning to Regina to complete her twenty-seven years as an educator including seven years as a speech therapist. With her kind and gentle manner, Donna nurtured many young people. Her career was shortened when she had to undergo two liver transplants which left her unable to continue with one of her passions: teaching. Donna was extremely devoted to her cats! Other interests included music, literature, scrapbooking and genealogy. Donna was thrilled when she could add some new information to her family tree!! The Rider Nation has lost a most loyal supporter!!! Throughout Donna's life she wore a smile, had a happy greeting for all and focussed on the good things. Donna was a joy to all who knew her. The family would like to thank Dr. W. Lewis, Dr. M. Abdulhadi, Dr. A. Aboguddah and Dr. W. Lok for their care. A Celebration of Donna's life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel on Wednesday August 5, 2015 at 3:30 p.m., officiated by Rev. Russell Mitchell-Walker. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Regina Humane Society or charity of your choice.
