Obituary of Joy Lee Johnson

JOY LEE JOHNSON Joy journeyed to her eternal rest on August 1, 2015, at the age of 62 years, after a brave fight with cancer. Predeceased by her father John Botts, she leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Allan; daughters, Christen Johnson (David Anderson) and Alexis (Shane) Arbuthnott; precious grandchildren, Elizabeth Anderson, Avery Arbuthnott, Lachlan Arbuthnott and Leah Arbuthnott; her mother Juanita Botts; sister Kathleen Miller; and brother Robert Botts. Dr. Johnson held a PhD in Administrative Studies from Southwest University and was an Accredited Business Communicator with the International Association of Business Communicators. Her life mission was to “help others be the best they can be.” With that in mind, she spent 14 years as a professor at Briercrest College, taught in the University of Regina Public Relations program, and served as adjunct faculty for Carey Theological College. For many years Dr. Johnson has been a strong advocate for people dealing with mental health issues. She served as Executive Director of the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan, and was a member of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Sask Div) and the Saskatchewan Mental Health Coalition. For the past five years, she has served as the Executive Director of The Caring Place, a non-profit faith-based counselling centre in Regina. Dr. Johnson is also an accomplished artist and long-time member of the Art Gallery of Regina, painting mainly in watercolour. A Service of Reflection will be held at First Baptist Church, 2241 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK., on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Caronport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Caring Place, 2146 Robinson St., Regina SK., S4T 2P7.
