Hello Karene and family:
My deepest condolences on David's passing. I didn't know David very well; but the time I did meet him at your house I felt he was a great, funny and happy guy.
I'm sorry I could not make it to the service; I'm sure it was very nice.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Dave was a kind person that will be truly missed. He was a very good friend to my boys throughout their school years. They always said Mr. Hawkins treated you like a person and took the time speak to you at their level understanding how tough things can be at times. We will forever be thankful to Mr. Hawkins and his time in our lives.

David was a wonderful teacher to my kids. I was especially pleased to note that he was a library user, using the library in Regina where I worked. He brought his children to my storytime when they were young, and I could see that he was a good dad, as well as a good teacher. He truly cared about his students and did his best for them. It is so sad that he was tragically taken from this life so soon. My sincere condolences to his wife, children and family. He will be missed by many.

Dear Karene and family,
Wade and I are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. I worked with him at Yellow Grass when he first began his career. Dave belonged in a school. He brought his very best each day, a kind, selfless educator and mentor whom teens flocked toward. They will not soon forget these gifts.
Peace be with you and your family.

Dave was a fantastic guy! I had the privilege of going to Junior High and High School with Dave, we also worked together over the summers while we were in University. I was a Political Science student and Dave and I always had great talks about history and politics. Dave had a gift with people, he could talk with anyone and make them feel at ease.
One conversation with him I will never forget is when we were talking about nicknames. Dave knew me well and was able to remember and list all the nicknames I had been given by people over the years.
Dave always paid attention to what was happening to the people around him, he continued to do this when he became a teacher and from what I have seen on Facebook over the last few days, his students loved him for this.
The world was a better place when he was here! He shall be greatly missed!
I have no doubt he will be watching over his family and friends every chance he has.
On behalf of the Roach family, I want to pass along our deepest condolences to the Hawkins and all of Dave's friends and students.

I want to send my condolences to Dave's family. I have known Dave since grade 7 when we started junior high together. I have air of found memories growing up with him and always enjoyed great conversations with him. We spent many hours at the U of R having long conversations instead of working! So many awesome memories....Dave will be missed greatly! My heart is very heavy thinking of this great loss. Take care and God bless!
