Genevie Skeel

Obituary of Genevie Skeel

Born on September 6, 1923, in Horodlowice, Poland (present-day Ukraine), Genevie passed away peacefully in Regina on September 5, 2015, a day shy of her 92nd birthday. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her four children, Robert of West Lafayette, Indiana, Margaret of Regina, Saskatchewan, Shirley of Tacoma, Washington and Linda of Los Angeles, California. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Virginia, Christine, Carlye, Rocky, Mick, Derek and Teslin; fourteen great-grandchildren and her sister Lydia. Genevie was predeceased by her granddaughter Susanna and brother Alexander. Genevie came to Canada in 1926 and grew up in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Following high school, where she played on the basketball team, she worked as an accountant at Western Grocers. In Yorkton she met her husband, Arthur, who was training as an RAF pilot. They were married on May 5, 1945. They moved to Calgary, where Arthur worked as a telephone engineer, and then to Edmonton in 1953. Genevie was a wonderful homemaker, loving mother and talented at sewing and knitting. She enjoyed playing piano, reading and golf, and was a Life Master in duplicate bridge. She moved to Regina in 2012 to be near her eldest daughter. She retained her sense of humor to the end. We are grateful for her long healthy life. In honoring Genevie’s wishes, there will be no service or memorial. Thanks to all friends for their warm sentiments and to Hillsdale Care Home.
