Obituary of Harold Krist Hillestad

Harold Krist Hillestad passed away with peace and grace, with his family at his side on Thursday, September 10, 2015. Dearly loved by his wife Dorothy; children Reona, Terri, Rick (Stella), Judi (Jeff); grandchildren Jason (Kelly), Erin (Steve), Amanda, Jordan, Alanna; great-grandchildren Matthew, Garrett and Emerson. Harold was the eldest of seven children, born in Bromhead SK on February 7, 1927. He met his wife, Dorothy, in Regina at the tender age of 16. They were lifelong partners for 72 years and celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in February 2015. Harold was a strong family man, generous helper to many, and always ready to support his children in their many endeavors. Harold was the eldest child of seven, predeceased by his parents, Ted and Bessie and three siblings Ken, Marion and Roy. He is survived by sisters Glenna, Eunice and brother Morris. Harold's work life was varied but he found his calling in local government administration in the 1960s. He was a strong supporter of education, encouraging and supporting post- secondary education for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, curling, carpentry, house construction, golfing -- and swung his clubs for the last time at age 86. Harold and Dorothy's favourite vacation locale was Hawaii which they visited over 20 times. They also enjoyed trips to the U.K. and drove extensively throughout the U.S. visiting Graceland, Callaway Gardens, New England and much more. He loved to drive! Harold was kind hearted and most generous with his time and talents. We will miss his love and care immensely. Rest in peace -- you will be in our hearts always. A Service of Love and Thanksgiving for Harold will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday September 14, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. If you wish, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Regina Food Bank in Harold’s name.
