Obituary of Frank Showell

Frank passed away peacefully on Sunday September 13, 2015. He was predeceased by his loving wife Norine. Frank will be lovingly remembered by nephew John (Marian) of New Zealand; niece Christine (Steve) of England; great nieces Emily and Stephanie and brother-in-law Glen. Frank was born in Manchester, England in 1933. He graduated from the London School of Economics in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was awarded a Fellowship by Queen’s University and moved to Canada in September 1956. After completing his Masters at Queen’s, Frank moved to Saskatchewan to work for the Economic Advisory and Planning Board of the Provincial Government. Later in 1967, he transferred to Sask Power where he held several positions until retiring in 1991. Frank contracted polio in 1947 at the age of 13, which left him with a permanent paralyzed right leg and other weaknesses. He nevertheless, participated in golf, curling, cricket and tennis until the effects of post-polio syndrome, forced him to reduce or curtail such activities. Frank met the love of his life, Norine in 1976 and they married in 1978. The couple enjoyed many activities such as Canadian Club, Globe Theatre, Regina Symphony, jazz concerts, exhibitions and travel. Norine developed Alzheimer’s and died in 2012. Frank was a generous man; his generosity extended out into the community where he supported twenty seven charities. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK, on Friday September 18, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Frank’s name to the charity of your choice.
