Orville Belhumeur

Obituary of Orville Joseph Belhumeur

Orville Joseph Belhumeur, affectionately known to many as “Kawliga”, was born December 24, 1952 in Esterhazy, SK. With profound sadness, his family announces that he suddenly passed away on September 21, 2015 in Regina, SK. Orville was predeceased by his parents, John and Merle (nee Hayden) Belhumeur; his grandparents, William and Rose Hayden and Amable and Eugena Belhumeur. He was an only child but his aunts and uncles were his age and as he grew up with them, he thought of them as his siblings. Those that predeceased him include Henry, Carl, Peter, Lilly, and Rose. He also mourned the loss of very special people in his life, including his Uncle Joe Sylvester; his good friend Terrence Kardash and his “brother” Bryne Hayden. Left to cherish Orville’s memory is his wife, Lenore; his children Nicole (Brad), Jolene, Tiffany, Derick (Amy), Ashley and Travis; his grandchildren Courtney, Victoria, Olivia, Montana, Michael, Cash, Dawson, and Aurora and his great-grandchildren Wynstyn, Lillian, and Niki. He is also survived by his aunties Noella Sylvester, Dianne Blenkinsop, Theresa Reimer, Olive (Bill) Ross, Laura Turner, Marjorie Carter, Louise Belhumeur, Darlene Belhumeur and Fay Belhumeur; his uncles Mervin Hayden, Fred Hayden, William “Poncho” Hayden, Robert Belhumeur and James (Ethel) Belhumeur as well as numerous cousins and extended family, especially Francis (Betty) Fisher and Rosare Belhumeur . Orville was a strong, hard-working man. He dabbled in construction, heavy equipment, and recently worked as a Security Guard, but his life’s work, his pride and his joy, was found within the Brotherhood of Ironworkers. His 40+ years as a union member took him from tying steel to welding. In true Ironworker fashion, he worked hard and played harder. His work took him too many places, he became known by many and respected by all. Even after his work travelling was done, he still enjoyed a good road trip and loved to meet with friends and family at any gathering he could get to. From all the recorded music, to movies, to posters, to his Elvis guitar, Orville was one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans and he was an avid collector of Elvis’ memorabilia. He always enjoyed his classic country music, he appreciated a good fiddle tune, and he loved to dance. He rooted for the Saskatchewan Roughriders – even through the not-so-great years. He enjoyed to play bingo and to take the odd “spin” on the machines. He loved animals and all his pets, but especially his “little buddy” of 18 years, Cody whom He sadly said good-bye to earlier this year. Orville loved his vehicles and his toys and it seems he always had a new one, a different one, a classic one, etc. Whether at an auction sale or in the classifieds, he was always looking for a good deal. He never knew what he needed until he saw it. Orville drew strength and pride from his Metis heritage and he never wavered from his Roman Catholic upbringing. He held old-fashioned values, and taught his children custom and tradition by his example. He looked fondly on the past, lived each day in perseverance and held onto hope and faith for the future. Orville will be missed by all who knew him. His family invites you to join them, as they honour him and his life. Prayer Vigil will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK. on Friday September 25, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecelia Roman Catholic Church, 5020 7th Avenue, Regina, SK. on Saturday September 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Reception lunch will follow.
