Obituary of Selma Weiss

SELMA WEISS Selma Weiss (née Fenske) passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at the age of 89 years. She was born on August 17, 1926 in Nowe Podole, Poland to Ewald and Emilie (née Jetz) Fenske, the eldest of eight children. Selma was predeceased by her husband Walter Weiss in 2002; parents, Ewald and Emilie; brother Ewald in infancy; sister Gertrud Johnson in 2014 (Dallas, TX); sisters-in-law, Diane Fenske, Irene Fenske, Erna Fenske; and brothers-in-law, Wilhelm Hein and Arthur Johnson. She will be sadly missed by her sons, Dr. Harold Weiss and Gary (Sara) Weiss; brothers, Helmut, Waldemar, and Harold (Lila) Fenske; sisters, Adel Hein and Margaret (Adolf) Hein; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Selma was a very warm, caring, hospitable, extremely hard-working person despite many trials and tribulations during her life. She and her parents, younger siblings and extended family became refugees when they were uprooted from their homes in Germany during the war years. With Walter, Selma came to Canada in 1956 to start her lifelong sewing career as well as raise her family. She was employed first in Yorkton and then various businesses in Regina, starting in 1964 including Service Cleaners, Great-West Ladies and Eaton’s of Canada. Selma retired in 1991. Selma and Walter had many friends and relatives in the U.S.A and Germany, and together with others, they travelled the world. A Public Visitation will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, on Thursday, October 1, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers gratefully declined. Those so wishing, may make donations in memory of Selma to Canadian Lutheran World Relief, 600-177 Lombard Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 0W5.
