Obituary of Eileen Zurowski

EILEEN ZUROWSKI We are sad to announce the passing of our dear Mother and Grandmother, Eileen Zurowski, of Regina, SK, who passed away quietly at Parkside Extendicare on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at the age of 87. She was born Eileen Kohan, daughter of Steve and Mary Kohan on June 12, 1928 near Hyas, SK; she was the oldest of six children. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Johnny, and husbands Leo (1997) and Wendel (2015). She will be sadly missed by her five sons Doug (Janice) and their children Clayton (Brenda) and Jenny (Brian); David (Lecia) and their children Brennan (Marni) and Jinelle; Dean (Jodi); Darren (Colleen) and their children Nathan and Megan; and Derek, her siblings Olga, Tom (Marianne), Vern (Steph), and Gladys (Barry) as well as five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Eileen was a kind and loving wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. She worked hard to raise her family of five boys. Once the boys were in school, she worked at SGI, The Bay, Plains Health Centre, and Mental Health-Child and Youth Services. Prior to retirement, she and Leo moved to Regina Beach where she was an enthusiastic volunteer with a zest for life and was devoted to her church, community, family and friends. Eileen enjoyed gardening and her harvest was put to great use in her busy kitchen. She was an excellent cook and was known for her great borscht, perogies, gingersnaps and cinnamon buns. She valued her Ukrainian heritage, and on Christmas Eve she always made 12 meatless dishes and loved to share that tradition with her entire family. She enjoyed travelling and the high point of her many destinations was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with her mother and her sister Olga. Funeral Mass will be at St. Jerome Roman Catholic Church, Regina Beach, SK on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Eileen’s passing has left a void in all of our lives but her memory will forever live on in our hearts and minds. As she would always say: “Di Bozhe!” Flowers are most gratefully declined. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of choice.
