Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3. If there were but one word to describe our mother, it would be unselfish. She was the most giving, generous person with everything she had, whether it be time or possessions. She loved her family beyond words and would do anything for them when she was needed. She never, ever put herself first. That translated to everyone that encountered her. After moving to Lorlie, SK from their farm in the 1940’s, she owned and operated a store for over twenty years on her own. She was an entrepreneur before her time. Not only did she run the grocery and dry goods general store, she bought and sold cord wood, fencing material, muskrat skins and bottles. There was never a task too big or too small to take on whether shingling a roof or baking a cake. When she moved to Regina in the mid 1960’s, she purchased a home and worked at various jobs. She loved everything she did, from providing food services at John Deere, managing a bakery and later in the dietary department at the Plains Health Centre delivering meals to patients. While delivering trays, she always managed a good visit with patients she knew and even those she didn’t. She was the perfect person for that job. The two things that topped her list were square dancing and picking Saskatoon’s. She absolutely would drop everything if someone suggested picking berries. She loved her cottage life at Katepwa, entertaining her friends, fishing and going to garage sales with her sister Julia. She painted, taught Sunday school, was extremely active in her church, acted in her drama club and enjoyed square dancing in the outfits she made for herself. Mom and Harold traveled all over the world including her favorite trip to the Holy Land with Pastor Kurtz and his group. Finding the next unusual place to dance was Mom and Harold’s passion. They belonged to a group that would square dance at the strangest places. Once retired, mom spent most days at the senior centre (The Lunch Box). She enjoyed the company of the many friends she met. A most amazing strong woman, she treated everyone equally, no matter their station in life. Her legacy is a set of values that will never be forgotten. As someone said lately, there should be more “Kays” in the world. A special thank you to the staff at Parkside Nursing home for the loving care mom received while there. There is not a doubt that she is in heaven watching over us. We will miss you mom. Your loving family.
