Helen Welta

Obituary of Helen Dolores Welta

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Helen Welta at the age of 95 years. She was predeceased by her husband Hilmer; her parents John and Karoline; sisters Annie, Mary, Sophie, Ruth, Florence, Wanda and brothers Phillip, Johnny and Herman. Left to cherish her memory are sons Ernie (Darlene) and Dale (Nancy); grandchildren Brent Welta, Chad (Alex) Welta, Carmen (Todd) Kalyniuk and Cathy (Vern) Eagle; great grandchildren Anika and Cailem Welta, Tomas and Victoria Kalyniuk and Weston and Erik Eagles; brother Rudy (Theresa) Chowaniec; brothers in law Clarence Leas and Quin Mann, also numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Helen grew up on a farm in the Fillmore district, where two of her loves were dancing and riding horseback. In 1944 she married Hilmer and moved to Regina. With the loss of her husband in 1972, she decided to learn how to drive, so she could be more independent. At age 52 she got her license and drove until she was 80. She made many trips to the Senior Centre to attend the afternoon dances and was still dancing at the age of 87, when she was the last person to leave the dance floor at her grandson’s wedding. Helen was a loving and supportive mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was very important to her and she never missed a family event. She was proud of the fact that at age 90 she had never missed a Majestics Car Show. She loved her annual cruise through the park on Canada Day in Ernie’s 1928 roadster. She said it made her feel like a teenager. Helen had many long wonderful friendships and she treasured them all. She was very sentimental and saved every card she had ever received from family and friends because they were too beautiful to throw away. She loved life and felt very blessed that she had such a long and happy one. A special thank you to all the staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their wonderful compassionate care. At Helen’s request, a private graveside service will be held at Riverside Memorial Park, on Monday November 23, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Helen to JRDF P.O. Box 3924 Regina, Sk. S4P 3R8 or Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Rd. Regina, SK, S4R 8P6. We don’t cry because we miss her, we smile because we had her
