Obituary of John Petrar

The family of John Petrar, age 92, beloved husband of Gladys announces that he passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Shalom Nursing Home. He leaves to mourn Gladys, his wife of 67 years; daughter Pat (Garry) Zatylny of Dysart and their family: Nikki (Ryan) Czemeres, Tara, Mitchell, Karlee; Amy(Michael) Bott, Emily, Katelynn; Becky (Dean) Schick, Kendel, Jase; son Brian (Heidi) and their family: Dara(Dave) Black, Dylan, Kade; Jarett (Kristen) Bree; sisters-in-law Veronica Petrar and Ida Beckett; brothers-in-law Ernie Kurtz and Dennis Mitchell and extended family in Romania and Ireland. John was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He took great pride in everyone and their accomplishments. John was the manager of the Dysart Co-op for 35 years. He was a very active member of the Dysart community serving as a charter member of the Dysart Credit Union and the Qu’Appelle Valley Home Care; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Order of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, Village Council Alderman and Mayor, Parkland Regional Library, Shalom Board, St. Cuthbert Church treasurer and Rector’s Warden for 44 years. John was predeceased by his parents Nicolai and Domnica Petrar; his siblings Dimitru, Margaret Kurtz, George Petrar, Marie George; sisters-in-law Grace Beckett, Christina Thomas- Wilcox; brothers-in-law John George and Bob Mitchell ( wife Marilyn); special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. We thank everyone at Shalom for their care of John over the past four and a half years. Funeral Service will be held at St. Cuthbert Anglican Church, Dysart, SK, on Saturday, December 26, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Village Cemetery with lunch at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church basement. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Cuthbert Anglican Church, Box 327, Dysart, SK, S0G 1H0.
