Obituary of Lillian Louvia Smith

LILLIAN LOUVIA SMITH We regret the passing of our Auntie Lillian who passed away Thursday December 31, 2015. She was born in Ernfold, SK on April 7, 1916. Lillian was predeceased by her parents Caroline and Sidney Cosser; her son Lorne; sisters: Phillis Nielsen, Edith Cosser and Mavis Gander. She is survived by her nieces: Beth (Cal) Neff of Caron, Peggy (Blake) Frank of Swift Current; nephews: Don (Alice) Gander, Wayne (Shirley) Nielsen, both of Moose Jaw, Glen Nielsen; and many great nieces and nephews. The family moved from Ernfold in 1929 to Regina where Lillian attended Connaught School and Balfour Tech. In 1940 she married Leonard Smith. They lived in Flin Flon, MB. In 1942, a son Lorne, was born and Leonard was called into the services, so Lillian and her two week old son moved back to Regina to be closer to her family. Lillian later returned to her former work of selling ladies wear in various stores over a period of thirty years. Upon her retirement, Lillian worked as a volunteer at the General Hospital Gift Shop. She later moved to the Heritage Apartments, where she made many good friends. She enjoyed watching sports and Christian programs on TV. Lillian was a long-time member of Knox-Metropolitan United Church, and triple Link Rebekah Lodge. The care she gave others was returned to her by the staff at Qu’Appelle House. When her health began to fail she moved to William Booth Special Care Home where she resided until her passing. A Service of Remembrance will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made, in memory of Lillian, to the Knox-Metropolitan United Church Memorial Fund, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 0S6 or a charity of one’s choice.
