Arnold Schneider

Obituary of Arnold Johann Karl Schneider

Arnold formerly of Regina and Lemberg, Saskatchewan died at his residence at Sherbrooke Community Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at the age of 88 years. Arnold was born on the family farm at Lemberg on March 26, 1927. He received his education at High Bluff School in the Hill Farm District near his home and then began working in lumber yards before moving into retail as General Manager of Co-op Stores, Lumber Yards and Service Stations. His career took him to many communities in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Alberta culminating in his position as General Manager of Edmonton Co-ops. Arnold also held the position of District Representative for Federated Co-op on two separate occasions travelling out of Yorkton and Regina during those years. He married Beverley Markell on January 31, 1953 and together they raised four sons. Bev passed away while they lived in Unity, Saskatchewan and then Arnold’s career took him to North Battleford. While travelling to a reunion at Lemberg, Arnold became reacquainted with a childhood friend and he and Evelyn Campbell (Kaminski) were married on May 3, 1986 in Edmonton. Arnold’s family grew by two children as Doug and Shannon became his son and daughter. His career led them to Drumheller and then Edmonton before they retired to Calgary. Later, they spent a few years in Victoria before they returned to Calgary to take up residence at Arbour Lake Retirement Community. Arnold moved to Saskatoon in January 2015 to be closer to family and then became a resident at Sherbrooke Community Centre in July. Arnold spent time curling, square and round dancing and enjoyed summers at the lake with family, fishing and using his carpentry skills to build his own cabin and boat. He was a member of Lions Clubs International and an active member of the Lutheran Church often having to travel many miles to attend regularly as there was no Lutheran Church in the community where he lived. Arnold had an incredible sense of humour, humanity and integrity. Arnold was predeceased by Beverley on May 15, 1981 and Evelyn on March 5, 2011; his daughter Shannon on May 9, 2007, his sister Elsie and brother-in-law Art Seaby; two brothers Wilfred and Elmer; sister-in-law Rose Naimish and brothers-in-law Nick Naimish and Leonard Kaminski.
