Obituary of Hilda Kontz

HILDA KONTZ Hilda passed away on January 22, 2016 at the Palliative Care Unit of the Pasqua Hospital, Regina, SK, after a brief illness. Hilda was predeceased by her daughter Eva Davis, her husband of 64 years, Michael, her brother Hartwig Hoffmann and sister-in-law Katie Hoffmann, and her parents Michael and Anna (nee Samson) Hoffmann. She is survived by her grandsons Austin and Tanner Davis; granddaughters Marilyn and Michelle Kontz; daughter-in-law Crispin (nee Clements) Kontz; son-in-law Darrell Davis; son Reg Kontz and nieces Claudia Petersmeyer, Monica Gillespie, and Erica Kirkland. Hilda was born in Modosh, Yugoslavia on April 28, 1927. After enduring many trials and tribulations during and following WWII, Hilda immigrated to Regina, SK in 1949. She and Michael were married at Grace Lutheran Church on July 8, 1950. Hilda retired from a long career as a teacher at several elementary schools with the Regina Public School Division in 1986. She was an active member of the “Harmonie” German-Canadian Club, St. Paul’s Lutheran church and more recently, Trinity Lutheran Church. She and Michael were both long-time supporters of Luther College High School. Hilda is fondly remembered for her delicious European cooking and baking. Hilda was also a passionate gardener. She had a thriving vegetable and flower garden at each of her homes in Regina. Even at her last residence at Broadway Terrace, she nurtured a number of plants on her balcony. She was immensely proud of her family and doted on her grandchildren. A Celebration of Hilda’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Broadway Terrace, 1150 Broadway Avenue, Regina SK. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in Hilda’s memory to either Regina Palliative Care Inc., 4F – 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK, S4T 1A5 or your favourite charity would be appropriate.
