Obituary of Dorothy Irene Nelson

DOROTHY NELSON July 21, 1926 – January 26, 2016 Dorothy Nelson, late of Regina, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2016 in the Palliative Care Unit 4A at the Pasqua Hospital. Born at St. Walburg, SK on July 21, 1926, Dorothy was one of ten children. She contributed on the farm following the death of her father in 1939. She received her High School Diploma at St. Walburg. In the 1930’s and 40’s Dorothy played softball and was recruited to play in the USA Women’s Baseball League during WWII. Dorothy was kept busy in her younger years raising Glen and volunteering in the community. She enjoyed curling and bowling in her spare time; being a long time member of the Regina Curling Club from 1965-75. She lived in her home in Lakeridge, where she loved to garden and tend to her yard. Predeceased by her parents; eight siblings; and husband Roy in 2000; Dorothy is survived by her son Glen; granddaughters, Alexis (Justin) in Williston, ND, and Kathryn in Athens, OH; brother George Karst of Hope, BC; special family friend Bonnie Ekdahl; as well as her dear friends on Ballantine Court. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina SK on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. Interment at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina SK, S4P 2R3.
