Alyson Olsen

Obituary of Alyson Dawn Olsen

Alyson Dawn Olsen left us peacefully on Friday, Feb 5, 2016 at the Pasqua Hospital Regina, with her family and close friends by her side. She was an inspiration to all of us as she graciously faced the challenges of cancer for 2 ½ years. Alyson was born in Surrey, BC, on May 24, 1980, the eldest of four children of Glen and Charlene Wimmer. Her family moved to Radville, Saskatchewan where she attended elementary school. In grade 8, her family moved to Daysland, Alberta where she graduated from high school. Alyson and Jarvis met at Aylesbury convention in the summer of 1995. Over the next four years their friendship grew. Alyson lived in Edmonton while attending University of Alberta before moving to Calgary. During this time Alyson and Jarvis got engaged and then were married on May 19, 2000. During their four years in Calgary, Alyson owned and operated a cleaning company while she and Jarvis also renovated houses. In 2004, Jarvis and Alyson moved to Doha, Qatar where they enjoyed traveling to many countries, making new friendships and entertaining friends and family from back home. While in Qatar, Daudi and Adair were added to their family. 6 ½ years later, they moved home to the family farm to raise their children while Jarvis began employment with Potash Corp Rocanville. Alyson loved getting involved with the kid’s activities and actively supported the community. She was passionate about kids learning to swim and believed it was a life skill. This passion drove her to help the Rocanville swimming pool in numerous ways. Alyson’s work ethic and love for her children motivated her to complete many special projects on the farm. Her love for nature and raising animals, inspired by Grandpa Arvid Thue, started at a young age. Caring for lambs, pigs, chickens and bunnies became something she enjoyed teaching her own children. Alyson learned she had cancer at the age of 33. Over the next two years she bravely faced the treatment options that were available. As options in Canada were exhausted, treatment in the US and Mexico was also pursued. Even though Alyson was hopeful to beat the disease, she was quietly preparing for eternity. Alyson will be dearly missed by Jarvis, her loving husband of 16 years and their two children, Daudi (8yrs) and Adair (7yrs). She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Glen and Charlene Wimmer; sister Kelty (Ashley) Becker; brothers Brice (Angela) and Ryan (Chelsea); her mother and father-in-law, Elaine and Roy Olsen; her sisters-in-law, Carla (Tim) Shultz and Candice (Phil) Stewart; 13 nieces and nephews; grandparents Arvid and Levonne Thue, Zena Wimmer, Dora Olsen, as well as her extended family and numerous friends. Alyson was predeceased by Bryer Olsen (first child of Jarvis and Alyson) and Grandpa Willie Wimmer. Alyson made a personal choice to serve God when she was 10 years old and over the remaining years of her life she enjoyed a deepening relationship with her heavenly Father. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Alyson’s caregivers at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina and for the generous support of family and friends far and near during this difficult time. ****************************** Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations in memory of Alyson, to a trust fund for Daudi and Adair Olsen in the account name of Jarvis and Roy Olsen at any TD Canada Trust Branch.
