Lorne Wettstein

Obituary of Lorne John Wettstein

AUGUST 14, 1945 – FEBRUARY 3, 2016 It is with great sadness and a profound sense of loss that we announce Lorne’s sudden passing in his Regina home on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at age 70. Lorne is survived by his loving wife Lorraine; children, Jason, Tanya (John), John (Carrie) and Pamela; six grandchildren; his siblings Joan (Don), Karl (Carol), Margaret Ann (Ernie); aunts Elsa and Edith, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Martha Wettstein, and many aunts and uncles. On August 14, 1945, Lorne was born and raised in Regina. In his early years, he would travel with his father on sales trips throughout the province before he started school at Wetmore. After high school, he went on to attend college and university in both Calgary and Winnipeg. He started his career in sales at Hotel Saskatchewan in Regina, which he described as the best sales job he ever had. Years later, he became Managing Director of Martin Luther Nursing Home, which was one of the highlights of his career. One of Lorne’s passions was to provide housing and services to seniors in the community. His greatest career accomplishment was becoming the founder of Martin Luther Housing Corporation. He took pride in his careers and truly relished the difference he made in people’s lives. Since retirement, Lorne has stayed connected to his work through being Chairman of the Board of Martin Luther Housing Corporation. Lorne had an entrepreneurial spirit throughout his life. He was very proud of his heritage and became the family historian. He also loved to spend his time travelling, enjoying artwork and antiques, visiting museums and learning new history of any kind. Lorne was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. We will miss that twinkle in his eye and so much more. A Celebration of His Life will be held at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen Street, Regina, SK on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be gratefully made to the Cardiac Care Unit at the Regina General Hospital through the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 1874 Scarth Street, Regina, SK, S4P 4B3.
