Obituary of Mary Novak

Mary, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by her parents Johanna and Rudolph Binder of Austria and her husband Stan. Mary is survived by her sister Erna and brother Rudolph of Austria; son Gordon of Regina; daughter Shirley (Clive) of Calgary; son David of Toronto; two grandchildren, Lauren and Meara (Shirley); niece Michaela and nephew Manfred of Austria. Mary was born in rural Austria and immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's. She held a great affection for the mountains of her native Austria and her favourite flower was the Edelweiss, as was her favourite song named after that flower. Mary's great passion in life was baking and she was a member of the local Austrian club and worked with their women's committee to bake and sell strudel for the annual city Mosaic cultural festival. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at St. Mary's R.C. Church, 2026 Winnipeg Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Vitalis Azike officiating, followed by a celebration with lunch in the St. Mary's parish hall. Interment will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers are most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the William Booth Special Care Home, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6 or St. Mary's parish. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Parkside Extendicare, 4540 Rae Street, Regina who provided exemplary and compassionate palliative care during Mary's last days and weeks.
