Obituary of Irma Marcella Dighans

IRMA MARCELLA DIGHANS (née Gross) 1923 – 2016 Irma Marcella Dighans was born to John and Mary Gross (née Hirschmiller) on January 31, 1923 at Hodgeville SK. She was the tenth child of thirteen. When she was old enough, in 1940-41 she enrolled in Normal School at Moose Jaw to be a teacher. She got her first teaching position at Hope Valley School District near Rockglen. She met John Dighans and they were married on January 31, 1944. They were married for five years before having any children. Their first child however died at only six hours old. It was a couple of years later when they adopted a son D’Arcy, when he was eleven months old. Then in 1955, they adopted a daughter Monica, when she was three months old. They thought they had their family, but in 1956 they had their own child, Kathryn. The family was now complete. Irma was predeceased by a son in April of 1950; her husband John inn January of 1978; daughter Kathryn in August of 1989; and son D’Arcy in May of 2013. She is survived by her daughter Monica (Bob); her grandchildren, Amanda (Chris), and great grandson Aiden; Scott (Katie), and Kristine; daughter-in-law Carol; grandchildren Felica (Mike); great grandchild Chris and great great granddaughter Lillith; grandchildren, Sean and Mary; granddaughter Candace and great granddaughter Ayverie; granddaughter Stacy (Tyson), and granddaughter Brandee; her sisters, Adelaide and Edith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Prayers will be held at Christ the King RC Church, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina SK on Friday February 26, 2016 at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King RC Church, on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Donations in Irma’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Interment will be in Rockglen Catholic Cemetery in the spring.
