Florence James

Obituary of Florence Oleanna James

Florence O. James, age 90 years, of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 29, 2016 with her daughter at her side holding her hand. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph and her parents Alfred and Alice Morrison. Florence is survived by her daughter Helen (Randy) of Seattle WA, and her grandson Elias, all of whom she loved very much. Florence (Morrison) met her husband, Joseph W. James, when he saw her at the Metropolitan store in Regina. They were married in April of 1945 and lived in Regina for the rest of their lives. After many years of marriage they were delighted and blessed to welcome a daughter into their lives and love as a couple. Their family was now complete. Florence was a professional Model for Joan Wadsworth House in the 1950’s. She later went on to gain her LPN designation, working at the Grey Nun’s (Pasqua) Hospital in Regina. She maintained her interest in the LPN Association until her passing. Florence was an accomplished seamstress who also enjoyed quilting and knitting. She continued that passion into her 91st year. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with immediate family and those she deemed her chosen family. She specifically enjoyed and delighted in any and all time spent with her grandson Elias. Florence was a very devoted mother and grandmother and her love will live on in their memories. Florence nurtured a deep faith and lived her faith by example. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for over 60 years. Her LDS church community was very important to her. Helen wishes to thank those who have been caregivers, companions and a friend to Florence. She would also like to thank those who invited Florence to be a part of their lives and activities. These generous people became part of her chosen family. Helen would also like to thank the staff and residents at the Renaissance Retirement Residence for their kindness towards Florence. In addition, thank you to the nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of the Regina Pasqua Hospital who showed compassion and respect when caring for Florence. Their care ensured she passed away peacefully in comfort and with dignity. Funeral service will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 550 Sangster Blvd., Regina on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Regina Memorial Gardens.
