Obituary of Ruth Campbell Jackson

1922 – 2016 Ruth Campbell Jackson, late of Regina, SK, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by her husband Ross and his family, Willis (Ora) of Pembroke, Ontario, Eunice (Andy) Jeffrey of Deep River, Ontario, Ethel (Sid) Burgess of Pembroke, Ontario, Jean (Pete) Lotwin of Calgary, Alberta; twin sister Mary (Jack) Bailey of Medicine Hat, Alberta, sister Janet (Bill) Peers of Acadia Valley, Alberta, and brother Harold (Phyllis) Dunn of Medicine Hat, Alberta. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Shirley Thibault of Regina, SK; two beloved grandchildren, Brendan and Jalaine Thibault; son Ron of Regina, SK; as well as numerous nieces and nephews across Canada. Ruth was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. She moved to Calgary, Alberta, and started working at MacDonalds Consolidated. She met her husband Ross in Calgary and they were married in Medicine Hat in 1955. In 1967, a work transfer moved the family to Edmonton, Alberta, then again to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1974 . In 1976, Ross passed away from cancer and left her to raise Shirley and Ron on her own. Ruth chose to stay in Regina and make that their permanent home. She began working full time at The Saskatchewan Wheat Pool until retirement in 1987. She loved riding her bicycle, playing Bingo every Friday night and the occasional Saturday night, morning coffee down the street with her best friend Joan Moore and swimming every Tuesday at the YMCA. She took regular trips to Moose Jaw with Joan and her husband Ken for lunch at Bonanza, which often finished with a ritualistic trip to Liquidation World. They also enjoyed stopping for a break at Buffalo Pound Provincial Park. In her late 80's she was still taking the bus downtown to meet with her friends for coffee. When she moved to Sunset Extendicare at 91, she continued to play Bingo and loved the polka dances and in-house entertainment. Her passion was her grandchildren; they loved to visit her and she loved to take them places and spoil them! She enjoyed cooking for Sunday night dinners, special occasions and holidays. Special thank you to Joan Moore and her family; Pam and Rob, Karelle and her kids; for being good friends all these years and reminiscing about great times together. Another special thank-you to the staff at Sunset Extendicare. The two years she spent there gave her the quality of life that she deserved. It is no doubt that she was loved and cared for. A Memorial Service will take place at the chapel in Riverside Memorial Park, 815 Assiniboine Avenue East on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Interment Riverside Memorial Park.
