Obituary of Rita Hall

Rita, late of Regina, SK passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 in Wascana Grace Hospice after a long, heroic struggle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Adelard and Blanche (Carriere) Belanger; sister Evelyn (Rene) Cote and brothers Leo (Sophie), Edward (Joyce), and Raymond (Louise). Rita is survived by her husband John Hall; son Sean Hall; daughter Gina (John) McGinn; grandchildren Callum and Livia McGinn all of Regina; sister Alice and brother-in-law Douglas Third of Estevan; sister-in-law Joyce Belanger of Regina; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Allan and Elma Hall of Regina, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rita was noted during school years in Lampman for medals in track and field. She married John Hall of Kisbey in 1962 and moved to Regina where she became an accomplished bowler, excelled at cross stitch, needle point and knitting producing dozens of afghans and wall hangings. Rita had a green thumb and spent hours in her yard. She worked with challenged people in the Approved Homes program which was a first of its kind program that integrated rather than institutionalize people with mental illness. She later worked with the Provincial Government for 21 years. She gave back to the community as a Library Assistant at St. Francis Separate School, fund-raising for the Fraser Pipe Band and Regina Highland Dance Association, and the British/Celtic/Scottish Pavilion in the Mosaic Festival. Rita was an avid Scottish Country Dancer for twelve years, and a forty-two year member of the local chapter of the Sons of Scotland Benevolent Association, including President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Camp Balmoral #177. In her latter years she loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them perform in sports, highland dancing and pipe band activities; she loved and thoroughly enjoyed her puppy Peaches, and grand puppies Llydya and Wilson. She reveled in spending time with family, friends and neighbours. A Memorial Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family and friends so wishing may make a memorial donation in Rita’s name to Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK, S4R 8P6.
