Obituary of Harry Charles Schiller

Harry, late of Weyburn, SK passed to ride God’s range on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at the age of 80 years. Predeceased by his wife Judith (nee Hicks); parents Anton and Eva Schiller; sister Ella Connery; brothers Anthony, John, Robert and numerous brother and sisters-in-law. Harry is survived by his son Randy (Janet) Schiller of Weyburn, SK; daughters Debbie Schiller of Bothell, WA and Vicky (Ken) Giesbrecht of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren Darcee Schiller (Jeff James) of Seattle, WA, Laura Lee, Jenna and Lesa Giesbrecht of Saskatoon, SK and Thomas Schiller of Weyburn, SK; great granddaughter Jorja James of Seattle, WA; sisters Helen (Steve) Helfrick of Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, and Adeline (George) Seitz of Regina, SK; brother Albert (Verna) Schiller of Regina, SK as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The ornery old fart will be remembered by numerous cowboys and cowgirls. Many of whom were Canadian or World Champions. Most notably Lillian Bryant (Nanton, AB) who is known as grandma to Harry’s grandchildren. Harry was born in Regina, SK on April 13, 1936 and grew up east of Francis, SK. His PFRA career started as a rider on the Wellington PFRA Community Pasture. Harry rode the Ormiston Community Pasture for a while as well. He managed pastures at Grenfell, Yellow Grass and retired at Paynton, SK (1989). Besides the PFRA, Harry also rode the a7 ranch and operated heavy equipment dozing sodium sulfate and constructing highways on the Saskatchewan prairie and the rugged Alberta mountains. Retirement took Harry to Alberta, residing at Cochrane, Tomahawk, and Vermillion. In 2004, Harry finally returned to Saskatchewan, residing near Grenfell. In 2013, Harry hung up his spurs and sold his horses to reside in Weyburn. Throughout Harry’s life he was well known for his excellent horses, cattle, card playing and rodeos. In his younger days, Harry discovered riding events were not his forte but he excelled in roping events, winning/placing at numerous CCA, Indian and American Old Timer Circuit events. In 2002, he won the Canadian Senior Pro Rodeo Team Roping Championship as a header. Harry subsidized ‘Goin’ Down the Road’ by judging many rodeos. Funeral Service will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 314-3rd Street N.E. Weyburn, SK on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with a Cowboy Fellowship immediately afterward. Interment will be held at Francis Cemetery at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
