Carol Fowler

Obituary of Carol Diane Fowler

Carol died suddenly June 10, 2016, age 81, at Sunset Extendicare. A caring and giving person, her life touched many. She was predeceased by her parents Rody and Beryl Drury, brother David Drury, sister Joy Cross/ Wilkie, Joy's sons Howard and Michael, and Joy's daughter Racheal. She is survived by her sister Alice (Rod) Brown, Victoria, B.C., nephew Robert Brown and niece Elaine Brown, nephews Brian Drury, Bruce Drury and Craig Drury; and other nieces and nephews in Canada and the USA. She was born and raised in Regina attending Balfour Tech where she was very active in sports. Her first job was that of a long distance telephone operator for SaskTel. For a time she served in the RCAF as a L.A.W. (Leading Air Woman). Normal School followed and she began her teaching career at grade school level. She loved to learn. Continuing education resulted in a B.A. and B.Ed. leading to a career teaching French and German in high school. When she became a home owner, she discovered a love of gardening. Lilies became her passion. The summertime beauty of her garden was enjoyed by neighbours and passersby. Always studying some new aspect of life she enjoyed carpentry, pottery, and crewel work. Music was a big part of her life as she learned to play the recorder, oboe and piano. Believing in actively supporting her community she supported the local arts: Globe Theatre, Regina Symphony, and purchased paintings by local artists. Through Plan Canada she fostered children in the Third World. Time and energy were found to teach English and the Canadian way of life to many new Canadians. She was a strongly independent woman continually reaching out to help others. Parkinson's Disease came upon her and became one of her challenges in life. In 2014 she became unable to live independently in her own home. For a time she lived in her own assisted living apartment. A major health downturn in March 2016 led to life at Sunset Extendicare. At her request there will be no funeral service. A special thanks to Carol's friends who, over many years have shown loving kindness to her. If Carol has touched your life reach out to others and pass on her legacy of caring and giving.
