Ethel Baxter

Obituary of Ethel Iona Baxter

Ethel was born in Nipawin, SK on August 4, 1930 and passed away peacefully in Regina, SK in the afternoon of Wednesday, July 27, 2016. She was a loving and devoted wife to George, mother to Richard (Corinne) and Rhonda (Brent), grandmother to Daniel and Jacqueline, and a friend to all. Mom was born into a busy household in Nipawin during the depression. She grew up understanding hard work and learning the value of a dollar. Ethel met and married George Baxter in July of 1954 in Carlea, SK. They moved to the United States with Mom working as a secretary, putting our Father through University, eventually earning a Master’s Degree from Princeton College and a Doctorate from San Francisco Theological Seminary. Ethel was a loyal and supportive wife to George, often hosting and entertaining at a moment’s notice in her role as a Pastor’s wife. She was a charming and lovely entertainer, always welcoming anyone and everyone into her home. Our Mother was an amazing baker and cook. Nothing tasted quite like something made by our Mom. She was a gentle woman, never saying an unkind word against anyone. Mom had a strong will and was consistent in doing what she said she was going to do and executing it beautifully. Once you got to know Mom, she became quite relaxed and would laugh and talk easily and happily. Ethel was predeceased by her Mother Ethel; Father Roy; brothers, Herbert, Robert, Donald, Gordon, and Glen; sisters, Neoma, Cora, and Helen. She is survived by her brothers, Dean and Leland; sister Blanche; as well as many nieces and nephews. Our family would like to thank the many wonderful people from Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, who cared for our mother in the past year. Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church, 2241 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
