Dick came across as a 'nice man' as described by Letterman. Was he by any chance related to Wayne Assman, a Grenfel teacher or Marvin, a minister? If so, perhaps a d scendant can email me at gatupper@gmail.com

Was saddened to hear of the passing of Richard. It feels as though I had known him my entire adult life as with many years of travelling on the road I filled up with gas very often and would always try to ensure I visited the station Richard was at. I know of many people who did same. He was always friendly and soft spoken and in my opinion a great example of human dignity, service, courtesy, and humility. With his infamy from the Letterman Show - a larger portion of the world got to see a bit of that too. We all could strive to be a bit more like him. My deepest condolences to all of his family, friends, and colleagues.

My children and I met Mr. Assman at the station in late August, 1995 when passing through Regina on a move from BC to Ontario. What a gracious man and what a great sport. His kindness stayed with me to this day.

I met Dick when I would fill up at the south Petro Can. Although I hadn't heard the name or remembered what happened on Letterman and sort of on Seinfeld in roughly 20 years or so, I recognized him when I saw him again last year. He was truly a real gentleman. I told him I remembered him from the show and that it was good to see him. He was very gracious. So after that, every time I stopped in he remembered me. He was such a nice person, I cannot reiterate that enough. I am going to miss seeing him there. Just goes to show how quickly life can change. My condolences to his family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I regularly chatted with Dick as I filled up with gas - he always brought a smile to my face and left me feeling to have the chat with him. He was a very gentle man who always had a smile on his face - I will miss him when I fill up with gas.

My deepest sympathy of the passing of a very kind man. I went to the Petro on Albert just to see Dick and talk to him. His gentle kind nature always brought a smile to my face. I will miss going to see him. He is in an amazing place now.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Assman two decades ago during his "moment in the spotlight" on the David Letterman show. I was travelling out west and just happened to stop at the service station where he was working in Regina at the time. He was a lovely person who talked at length about his sudden fame and about how pleased he was to represent Saskatchewan and Canada. I am glad he lived a long and happy life. RIP Dick...

I met Mr. Assman when he worked at the Petro Canada on South Albert. I took the SaskPower cars there to get gassed up and go through the car wash. He was always so happy and friendly. Positive and kind. Courteous and funny. We always exchanged a few words and a laugh or two. He was a very very nice man. May he rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. From the time I got my first car to when I moved from Regina, I always went to Dick's station (wherever that may have been) for my gas. He was kind and considerate. I will always remember him. Rest in Peace, Dick and may your family find comfort in their memories of your sense of humor and humanity.

On behalf of everyone here at Harvard Broadcasting our condolences to the friends and family of Dick. Personally, I was lucky enough to share a few laughs and have Dick join me to do the weather at STV Regina amidst all the Letterman craze of the mid-90s. He was such an easy going lovable man who remained as humble as ever as he rose to fame in such a short time. Great man! He will be missed.
