Obituary of Hannah Tratch

HANNAH TRATCH (STINKA) Dec. 25, 1932 – Aug. 19, 2016 Hannah Tratch, beloved wife of the late Thomas Tratch, of Regina, SK, formerly of Buchanan, SK, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the age of 83 years. Hannah was born on the family farm in the Buchanan district on December 25, 1932. She was one of 12 children to John and Polly (Hupka) Stinka. Hannah attended Vaslowitz School and achieved her grade eight education. She remained on the farm to help with chores and assist in raising her younger siblings. Hannah married Tom Tratch on October 12, 1958 and together they were blessed with five children. They lived on a farm 5 miles north of Buchanan, where they operated a mixed grain and livestock farm. Hannah particularly loved her favorite Jersey cows. Although life on the farm was often difficult, especially in the early years, there are many good memories of working and playing together as a family. Tom and Hannah sold the farm in 1998 and moved to Kelowna, BC where they enjoyed their retirement. Tom passed away in 2001. Hannah then moved to Regina in 2009 to be centrally located to her children and be close to extended family and friends. She was well known for her cooking, especially the favorite Ukrainian dishes and her homemade bread. Mom was skilled in braiding paska and kolach and she made all of her children’s wedding Korovai. Hannah was blessed with a green thumb. She loved gardening and devoted a lot of time to nurturing her large gardens on the farm and beautiful flower beds. During the winter months, she loved crocheting afghans and lace. Hannah will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Polly; husband Tom; daughter Jody-Lynne Haller; sisters, Doris Stinka, Mary Stinka, and Vicky Lynch; and brother Wasyl in infancy. Hannah is lovingly remembered by her children, Timothy (Lori Jo) Tratch of Calgary, AB, Yvonne Crawford of Kelowna, BC, Rhonda (Daryl) Domitruk of Darlingford, MB, David (Laveena) Tratch of Regina, SK, and son-in-law Robert Haller of Tisdale, SK; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; brothers and sisters; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. The family of Hannah thank Dr. Hansia, Dr. Johnson, Dr. Henley, Fr. Malowany, the staff at Meadow Clinic, and the staff at Pasqua Hospital Emergency and Palliative Care Unit for their special care in the days and months prior to her passing.
