Ruth Slobodian (nee Moore), late of Fort Qu'Appelle, SK died of pancreatic cancer at Regina General Hospital in Regina, SK on Aug 29, 2016 at the age of 73. She was predeceased by her husband Nestor (1976), and sister-in-law Jill Stocks (Moore)(2014). Ruth is survived by her parents James and Wilda Moore (nee Douglas) of Chase BC; brother Douglas Moore of Cold Lake, AB; sister Janice Winfield (David) of Chase, BC; daughter Sheri-Bea Platz (Joe) of Glendon, AB, daughter Terri-Lei (Dave Boudreau); son Jamie-Ray (Sandra) of Cupar, SK; six grandchildren Sienna, Kale, Chase, Paisley, Jamison and Shaylyn as well as nieces and nephews Laura, Patrick, Heather, Philip, Andrea and Steven.

Ruth Slobodian was born on November 21, 1942 to James and Maureen Moore (nee Burke) in Halifax, Hampshire, England. As a very young girl she moved to Springside, SK to reside with her grandparents Sydney and Belle Moore. Her fondest childhood memories are filled with adventures with her Aunt Sharon (who was close to her age) and cousin Deanna. She would often reminisce the old ways on the dairy farm.

After high school Ruth moved to Brandon where she met the love of her life, Nestor Slobodian. They were married on November 28, 1964 and moved to Yorkton in the early 1970’s. She remained in Yorkton after Nestor’s passing.

Ruth raised her three children Sheri, Terri and Jamie in Yorkton, throwing herself into most of their activities and many community events. Ruth chose to be a stay-at-home mom, of not only her kids, but also to countless others - providing daycare over the years. She was “Auntie Ruth” to the neighbourhood.

When her grandchildren started arriving, she moved to Fort Qu’Appelle to spend all her time with the angels of her heart. She happily resided there until called to heaven.

The day after her youngest grandchild was released from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Ruth was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer—a condition she shared only with her immediate family. She put up a brave fight, hiding her pain most of the time. Unfortunately, in her last week she fell and broke her hip and was transported to Regina General Hospital. Her children and grandchildren stayed by her side until her passing on August 29, 2016 at the age of 73.

Funeral Service will be held at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, on Sunday September 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity. Ruth’s favourites were the SPCA and the ChildChildrensHospitalSask.ca
