Obituary of Steven William Payie

STEVEN WILLIAM PAYIE May 1, 1956 – September 2, 2016 It is with great sadness and heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of Steve, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at the age of 60 years. He was predeceased by his parents William and Frieda Payie and sister Brenda Wickens. Steve leaves to mourn his loving wife of 28 years, Tami; brother Rick (Laura); brothers-in-law Rick and Greg (Marylou); uncles Herb and Cecile; nieces and nephews, Tracylynn (Dan) Nicholas, Jonathan, Renai, Colleen, Tyler and Trevor; great nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Steve was born May 1, 1956 in Parry Sound, Ontario. In 1963, at the age of 7, Steve’s family moved to Meaford, Ontario, where he went to elementary and high school. After graduation, Steve worked at Meaford Automotive. Later he moved to Calgary, Alberta to manage his own stores with NAPA and Grant Brothers. In the mid 1980’s, he transferred to Regina where he changed careers and started with Advanced Engineer Products as a salesman. Steve was exceptionally good at his job as he had so many strong relationships with his clients. After retiring from Advance, Steve took on a new role at Signal Industries. He loved his new career and, once again, was tremendously successful at it. He had great pride in customer service and all his customers loved to work with him. Steve continued to work even as his health was letting him down. Steve was a kind, loyal, and patient man who was loved by family and friends. He spent many happy summers, first at the cottage in Parry Sound with friends and later on at his own campsite at Regina Beach. For over 20 years, Steve and Tami went to the lake to enjoy the company of many great friends. He loved to golf and was always trying to improve his game. He also loved boating and was a long time member at the Regina Beach Yacht club. Many a summer day was passed either boating with his nephews or out on the golf course. He was an avid car enthusiast and, in his younger days, owned many cars that he treasured. Steve loved to travel and was fortunate both his jobs allowed him to do so, which took him throughout Canada and parts of the USA. His last few years were mainly in Saskatchewan where he really got to know the province and all its parks. Steve and Tami traveled to Mexico, Hawaii and Cuba to enjoy the sun and beaches. Steve was a great swimmer and this is how he earned the nickname “Seadog” from his nephews. Steve loved to putter around the house, and took great pride in his work. He had almost completed a total renovation of their home. Another of Steve’s many talents was barbecuing. He was King of the Grill hosting numerous family gatherings. Steve’s life, a precious gift to the many people who knew and loved him, will be celebrated at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, 1975 Broad Street, Regina, SK on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. A very special thank you to all the nurses and doctors on 3B at the Pasqua Hospital.
