Obituary of Ernest Emmanuel Schmidt

ERNEST EMMANUEL SCHMIDT Ernest was 93 years old at the time of his passing. With very many heavy hearts, we are sorry to say our Dad’s struggle to stay with us came to a peaceful end on Friday, November 4, 2016. His smile and sense of humour stayed with him until the very end. He was loved and respected by everyone. We will all miss him dearly! Ernest was born on January 28, 1923 in Hatton, SK. He moved to the Southey area in 1924. Ernest married Helen Manz on December 25, 1948. They shared 48 years of marriage prior to Helen’s passing in 1997. In 1949, they bought a farm in the Craven area where they raised their four daughters. Ernest was predeceased by his wife Helen; parents, Fred and Beata Schmidt; brothers, Bill, Christian and Richard; and sisters, Hertha and Lillie. In mourning are his four daughters, Joan Riemer, Joyce (Tim) Hill of Toledo, Oregon, Carol Ward, and Shirley (Ken) Christoph. As well as Joan’s daughter Shalla Riemer (Frank) and their children, Kennedy (Scott), Willow, Anejo, Gavin, Gabrielle, Garnet and Kennedy and Scott’s son Watson; Joan’s daughter Alyssa (Casey) Lawford and their children, Jada, Meryk and Kingston; Joan’s son Warren (Danielle) and their son Liam; Carol’s daughter Jenine; and Shirley and Ken’s children, Tyler (Jessica) and Ciara (Tanner); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Ernest will be held at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3510 Queen Street, Regina, SK on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. C. Moeller officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. Ernest served for many years on the Immanuel Heritage Committee ensuring that one meaningful service was held in the church each year.
