Obituary of Irene Elizabeth Fay Gibbons

IRENE ELIZABETH FAY GIBBONS Irene passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, November 18, 2016. She was born in Regina on September 5, 1933 to parents Harry and Millie (Seibel) Strankay. Irene lived and worked in Regina all her life. She graduated from Scott Collegiate and she was a Saskatchewan Roughrider cheerleader and a runner up for Miss Saskatchewan Roughrider. Irene married the love of her life, Myles Gibbons, in 1954 and together they raised five children. Professionally Irene was one of the first female loans officers and then one of the first female bank managers in Saskatchewan for a national bank. She was active in the Credit Women’s Association and finished her career as a successful investment broker for RBC Dominion Securities. Irene loved to dance, Regina Beach, the Riders, socializing with friends, and traveling. Grandchildren, family, and taking time each day to meet Myles and friends for happy hour conversation, remained her passion until the end. In retirement Irene was a familiar face at Wascana Hospital, tending to the needs of her granddaughter Kyla. She was predeceased by her parents; son Myles Jr.; brothers-in-law, Clive and Bruce Gibbons; and brother and sister-in-law, Percy and Sonyia Bronson. Irene is survived by her husband of 62 years, Myles Sr.; her daughters, Karen Gibbons (Al McDonald), Jan Gibbons, Lyla Deis, and Susan (Matt) Folk; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; sister Delores (Jack) Knill; brother Murray (Kathy) Strankay; in-laws, Helen (Bill) Woods and Donna Gibbons; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Craig Moeller officiating.
