Obituary of Charles Duncan Ahlberg

Charles “Duncan” Ahlberg passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25, 2016 at the age of 92 years. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Freda Ahlberg. Duncan is survived by Louise, his loving wife of 65 years, and his children, of whom he was so proud, Diane (Rick), Laurie (Larry) and David (Janice). Duncan dearly loved his grandchildren, Jason (Rae-Anne), Ryan (Shauna), Justin (Teresa), Evan (Quinn), Erin and Jenna (Brendon). He was also blessed to have nine great grandchildren, with one more expected to arrive soon. Duncan was born in Regina and grew up on a farm by Golden Prairie, Saskatchewan. He graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry. Duncan spent his entire career working at the Saskatchewan Health Laboratory where he dedicated himself to his work in chemistry. In addition to his work, Duncan had many varied interests. He loved sports including tennis, golfing and curling. He was an avid duplicate bridge player and was always happy to spend time playing cribbage or board games with his children and his grandchildren. Duncan was especially passionate about gardening and everyone who knew him will remember his immaculate and bountiful vegetable gardens as well as his beautiful flowers, especially his roses. The family wishes to thank Duncan’s physician, Dr. Mark Cameron and we especially thank the staff at Dove House for their loving care of Duncan during the past two years. We have appreciated all of you more than words can express. We have been so blessed to have had Duncan, this kind and patient man, in our lives. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever. A private family service will be held with the Reverend Dr. Lois Knudson Munholland officiating.
