My mother Helen (Pat) Wills was the daughter of Ethel and Harold Wills, who lived in Lumsden many years ago. They are all 3 buried in the cemetary there. She spoke of Shirley often. I believe Shirley sent me a letter several years ago, and a copy of the book, the Hills of Lumsden. I’m sorry for the loss of Shirley. She was the only relative I knew of on my mother’s side of the family.

Such wonderful memories of Shirley welcoming Mom and I and whoever else was with us into the Wills home. As soon as you came up the back steps you could smell delightful treats coming from the kitchen. Always greeted us with a smile and her infectious laugh and one of her favourite sayings "neebie knows". One of my favourite memories was when Ken left a "confidential" envelope on the table insinuating it contained the name of the new minister coming to Lumsden United Church. Ken set her up and Shirley delivered. I would have been right in there with my cuz. I was blessed to have many wonderful memories of Lumsden, and lucky to be welcomed into Bert and Shirley's home. My heart goes out to you all and may your memories keep her close always. Love and Prayers

Bert, Barb, Sandy, Ken and Linda - my sincere condolences to you each of you and to your families on the loss of your wife and mother. Bert, when we spoke last October, I remember you proudly telling me that you were still living in the house that you built in 1958 for your wife and growing family. Today, 58 years later I'm sure you are comforted by all the wonderful memories that you and Shirley and your children had over the years in that happy home. It's those memories that will help you during the challenging times. Barb, Sandy, Ken and Linda - be gentle with yourselves as time goes on. It's really tough when you have to say goodbye to someone who has known you, and loved you your entire life as your Mom did.

Dear Bert, Barb, Ken, Linda and families,
So sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. She was blessed to have such a devoted family at her side through her lifetime and during her years at the Heritage Home. I will always remember her huge smile, and her laughter. A generous person, always willing to give of herself.
She will be missed.

Sending heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your wife, mom and grandma! Never a dull moment at your house--was like my second home! Many cherished memories of your mom and all the fun times!
Love Arlene, Cal and Families
Deepest sympathy from Great Aunt Enid. She still remembers many great times with her niece and family! Especially washing Shirley's face when she was young and not being very popular while doing so!
