Obituary of Olive Nadia Adams

OLIVE NADIA ADAMS May 24, 1922 - December 6, 2016 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of (Olive) Nadia Adams. Surrounded by family, Mum returned home to Our Lord and was reunited with her beloved Winston in the afternoon of Tuesday, December 6, 2016. Nadia was predeceased by her parents, James and Ann Ruttle (Alfred); and her seven siblings. Left to cherish Nadia’s memory are her seven children, Deirdre (Bob Obrigewitsch), Winston (Lesley), Dermot (Pam Allardyce), Fiona (Rory Lebell), Stewart (Bev), Faith, and Jacqueline; her most beloved grandchildren, Megan (Taylor Livingston), Daniel, Alex, Sam, Olivia, Isabelle, and Emily; her beloved caregivers, Neng and Vivian; as well as many nieces and nephews. Nadia was born in Belfast, Ireland and spent her formative years in Dublin. Mum served in the Voluntary Aid Detachment (V.A.D.) assisting medical personnel caring for the British troops in London, England during the war. Nadia became a Registered Nurse on November 26, 1948. She trained and practiced at Guy’s Hospital in London, England. Nadia met Winston and they were later married in Dublin on July 31, 1954, at the University College Church. They moved to Georgetown, British Guiana, where Winston commenced his career in Public Health. On December 6, 1963, Nadia and Winston immigrated to Regina with their five children (at that time). In the autumn of 1964 the family moved to Whitewood, Saskatchewan, where Winston was the community’s family physician. Due to the demanding schedule of a country doctor, Mum kept the home fires burning, caring for the seven children. The family spent a wonderful three and a half years there, developing great friendships and memories. In 1968, the family returned to Regina where Winston opened his family practice. This is where the family settled. Nadia was a woman of great and enduring faith. She had many talents and was very accomplished. In addition to being a highly skilled nurse, Nadia was an eloquent speaker, a wonderful storyteller, and a most gracious host. She was charismatic and had the ability to engage with anyone and everyone and put them at ease. Nadia’s greatest love was her family and Christmas was her favourite time of the year. Her greatest joy was being with her whole family, especially her grandchildren. Mum showed us how to respond to all life’s challenges with great dignity and strength right through to the end. Nadia/Mum/Grandmother, you loved well and you were so loved in return. Until we meet again. Rest in Peace. A private service will be held to celebrate Nadia’s life. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Father Stephen Bill and his team for their care and support including home and hospital visits; Dr. Kazmi and Dr Prakesh Patel; and to the wonderful team of 6F at RGH.
