Obituary of Elsie Helen Borsa

ELSIE HELEN BORSA Elsie, late of Santa Maria Care Home, Regina, SK, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 9, 2016 at the age of 87 years. She was predeceased in 1998 by her loving husband of 43 years, Edmund; parents, John and Annie Cherneski; and father and mother-in-law, John and Sophie Borsa. Elsie is survived by her three sons, Wayne of Regina, SK, Lorne (Liliane) of Round Rock, Texas, and John (Louella) of Regina, SK; grandchildren, Danielle (Jay) Castillo, Michael (Sherry) Borsa, Christopher Borsa, Stefanie Borsa, Katelynn Borsa, Rebecca Borsa, and Luke Borsa; as well as three great-grandchildren, Jiovanni Castillo, Asia Castillo, and Avery Borsa. She is also survived by her nine siblings, Eleanor Symchych, Irene Stevenson, Gene (Marie) Cherneski, Don (Shirley) Cherneski, Leonard (Sylvia) Cherneski, Marlene Muldoon, Joanne (Mike) Mulholland, Janet (Bob) Yaworski, and Ed (Kathy) Cherneski. Elsie was born on March 30, 1929 on her parents farm in the Goodeve area where she went to church, elementary school, and carried out numerous farming duties. She received a high school education from Sacred Heart Academy in Yorkton, SK and in 1949, she ventured to Saskatoon to complete a business course at Success Business College. Elsie was very proud of these accomplishments. The Federal Taxation Office, Dept. of National Defense and St. Paul’s Hospital were a few places of employment until she met Edmund Borsa of Wishart, whom she eventually married. Soon after, Elsie became a mother of three, a homemaker, and at times held various jobs to help support the household. Her most important role was looking after her family. After retirement, Ed and Elsie moved to Regina and enjoyed cottage life at Kannata Valley, where they enjoyed vegetable gardening, potting flowers, and visiting with family and friends. Elsie enjoyed being a CWL member, a volunteer with the Open Door Society and meeting new people as a local Avon representative. As Elsie always said, ‘life was good.’ We take great comfort in knowing that Elsie will be reunited with her loving husband Edmund, who is waiting to greet her and welcome her home. A Celebration of Elsie’s Life will take place at St. Anne’s Parish, 1701 Cowan Crescent, Regina, SK on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Lindenbach presiding. Interment to follow at Regina Memorial Gardens. Special thank you Dr. Warden, Dr. Gruszczynski and all the staff at Selo Gardens and the Santa Maria Care Home – you truly made a difference in Elsie’s final years. Elsie was a loving mother, wife, and sister and a very special friend to many. She was a very compassionate person who accepted everyone as they were. We are so very proud of her. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9.
