Obituary of George Smith Murphy

GEORGE S. MURPHY 1931 - 2016 With great sadness, the family of George Murphy announces his passing on Saturday, December 10, 2016. Born to Billy and Mary Murphy in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, George’s adolescent years were filled with travel and life by the sea. George joined the RCMP in 1949 where he served for 33 years. During this time, he met Joan Baker, the woman who would become his dedicated wife for an incredible 61 years. Through the ebb and flow of life, George faced adversity with courage and humility, leaving a legacy for those around him to learn from. He was predeceased by his mother and father; his sister Jean; his son Bruce; his mother and father-in-law, Morley and Dorothea Baker; and brother-in-law Gerry Baker. Left to mourn and remember George are, his loving wife Joan; son Brian (Diana); daughter Colleen (Percy); grandchildren, Tanya (Jason), Joshua (Kailey), Julie (Travis), Gina; and Robert; great-grandchildren, Ashly and Rebecca; sister-in-law Joan; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. If you so choose, donations may be made payable to Dr. Rajput’s Parkinson's Endowment Fund, Royal University Hospital Foundation, 103 Hospital Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0W8 or ruhfoundation@saskatoonhealthregion.ca. Sincerest thanks are extended to Regina Home Care and the staff at the Cupar and District Nursing Home. A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at a later date. May we all continue our own lives on this earth remembering George as he was, a kind, quiet man who faced life with a strong mind and a courageous heart.
