RIP Mr. Bill
I have never forgotten the advice you gave me on the importance of name to one's identity. You touched the lives of so many and both my daughter and I had the privilege of being your student. Your words will not be forgotten and your essence lives on.

To Lizabeth, Bill's children, and extended family:
My deepest condolences on the passing of Bill. He was a very special person whom I came to greatly appreciate and admire while taking a number of classes from him at First Nations University of Canada (the old SIFC). Through his classes and friendship I came to a greater understanding of aboriginal cultures, especially Anishinabe, which helped me to understand and teach my First Nations students. As I came to appreciate and gain some insights into First Nations beliefs and cultures I also began to delve deeper into my own Irish/Celtic cultural background and develop a pride in that culture. He often spoke of his family and of his Walpole Island First Nation with pride
While taking summer classes from Bill, it seemed that he always knew when I had had a rough year teaching and provided insights, knowledge, and introductions to others who provided me with valuable knowledge. I always enjoyed meeting up with him in his office for chats and to see who he was going to introduce me to next--often people from my home area that had deep connections to my family through several generations that I had lost contact with. He always seemed to be a bundle of energy, never sitting still or staying in one place for long while teaching a class.
The world needs more Bill Asikinacks in it. He will be missed by many whose lives he touched through his teaching, his humour, and friendship.
May your memories of times spent with Bill sustain you at this time.

I had the pleasure of Bill being my Indian studies instructor when I attended the then SIFC. He was a great instructor he made us laugh but also made us think for ourselves. The stories he would tell us. He was true to his message. I am glad I had the honor for our paths to cross. Condolences to the families. He was a great man.

I took had the privilege of taking an intro INST class with Bill back in 1994. His teachings changed my career path, and ultimately my life. I am a better person, social worker, educator and citizen because of his gift for sharing the true history of Canada with his students in such an engaging and relatable way. He will be missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I knew Bill over 25-30 years since he was on various Boards of the Canadian Plains Research Center at the University of Regina. He would arrive for meetings and always have a minute to chat. Every time you met him outside of the University, I would receive a big smile and a "Hi How are You Doing - It's Good to See You!" He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

We, like everyone who ever met Bill, are so very saddened by the news of his passing. Once (perhaps always) his student and later his colleagues, we loved to learn from him each time we met. His laugh, smile, and love of everyone and life will always be with us. The world is so much a better place for Bill having spent time with us.
