Frederick Seiferling

Obituary of Frederick Leo Seiferling

FREDERICK LEO SEIFERLING September 17, 1932 – January 3, 2017 Fred passed away peacefully, at College Park II on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the age of 84. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Theresa; three brothers, Sebastian, John, and Adam; and two sisters, Florence and Maureen. Fred is survived by his wife Marion; six children, Karen (Tony) Kaptein, Tim (Donna), Murray, Rick (Lorna), Roxanne (Eric) Zahajko, and Tom (Donna); eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one brother Paul from Calgary; and two sisters-in-law, Marcelline and Adeline. Being raised on a farm near Kronau, Fred kept busy during his younger years, doing chores, going to Saar School and lots of fun times with his siblings. At age 21, he married Marion Selinger and they started their new life on the family farm in Kronau, which became their home for the next 44 years. Fred loved farming and worked hard to make a success of it. He learned all his mechanical and welding skills from his father Paul. They spent many hours in the shop, repairing machinery so everything was ready for spring seeding and harvest. Fred’s faith and his family were very important. Though he was a man of few words, his wife and children respected and loved him very much. Fred was always willing and ready to help others. His hobbies included fishing, boating, water skiing, and the occasional trip to a Casino. In Fred’s early 70s, he got an inkling of what the future held for him. A couple of years later, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Fred never complained, but slowly and surely the illness robbed him of all his memory and cognitive abilities and eventually took his life. Many thanks to all the care givers, nurses, and Bill, who were so caring and attentive in the last few days. Funeral Mass will take place at Little Flower Church, 420 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fred, may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
