Obituary of William Ernest Nelson

WILLIAM “BILL” ERNEST NELSON It is with deep sadness, that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Ernest Nelson (July 12, 1934) on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the age of 82 years, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Vivien Nelson and sister-in-law Eileen Nelson, Bill will be remembered by his loving wife of 59 years, Tillie Nelson; children, Hugh (Angela) Nelson, Shelley (Bob) Campbell, Dana Nelson, and Jodi (Rob) Tweed; grandchildren, Kristen Nelson (Ryan Schultz), Jessica Campbell (Kyle Hodinsky), Daniel Campbell, Maddi and Kolton Tweed; siblings, Garry Nelson (Olive Hein) and Verna Lynne (Jerry) Knipfel; and nieces and nephews, Allison Nelson, Karla (Stacey) Wiens and family, David Knipfel (Erica Matthews) and family. Dad was a well-respected businessman throughout his lifetime and worked in many different areas. He eventually retired from a long stint in the hospitality industry. Dad served on many boards and was involved in several community clubs and organizations including Kinsmen, K-40, Shriners, and many others. He loved to hunt, fish, golf, solve the world’s problems over coffee, and play cards with family and friends. We will miss his robust sense of humour, quick wit, love for all animals, especially his precious family pets and grandpuppies over the years, and his many classic sayings. At dad’s request, there will be no service and the family will have a gathering at a later date to return dad’s ashes to his family homestead. The family would like to thank Dr. Kriek, Dr. Virik, and the staff of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, Pasqua Hospital Unit 3A, and Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for their kind and compassionate care. Flowers are most graciously declined. Those wishing to do so, may make donations in dad’s honour to the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7; Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1; Regina Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6; or a charity of your choice.
