I just watched the film Black Watch Snipers and was overwhelmed by the heroic actions of those 5 incredible young Canadian men. I was so grateful to hear their stories and humbled by their sacrifice. I will not forget these true heroes.

I am born in the Netherlands, just 25 years after ending of WW. I just watched the documentary about the Black Watch Snipers. Thank you, Jim, and to your buddies for freeing our country and the rest of Europe from Nazi occupation. I hope you had a good life. You deserved it.

I was friends with Jim when we served in the Flin Flon Lions Club, even though he was old enough to be my father. He was a wonderful gentleman, a gentle soul, and had a keen wit that the twinkle in his eyes betrayed. He once told me that he served in the Black Watch during WW 2, but he would never talk about what he endured during his military service. I never knew how heroic and daring he was along with his Black Watch comrades, until I saw the docudrama where Jim finally was able to relate his story. Shot in the chest and right ear which took a chunk out of his skull, Jim was flat on his back in an Army Field Hospital when the war ended. He went on to be a successful businessman in Flin Flon, and his lovely wife Eva was a bank manager. Jim never touched a firearm after the war. Jim was a true hero and I am forever grateful for his service and his friendship. Rest in Peace Jim.

Watching the show about Jim’s war experience was extremely moving.
I hurried to show my mom Mary Stewart and explain to her that Jim was her cousin as his mother May was a sibling to James ‘Ray’ Stewart, my mom’s father.
I hope the memories of Jim gives comfort to the family left behind.

Jimmy you can rest now. No nurses coming to wake you up at 10:00pm. Disturbing your sleep. He told me I could write a book. It would be a best seller I said. Jimmy (as I always called him) said he got a walker from his sister in law.. The one who washed his clothes and who took him out for breakfast every week. Jimmy was so funny. I don't need a walker. Walker's are for old people. Then he would imitate their walk. Jimmy always wore a blue sweater. Oh you got a new sweater I said. No he said someone left this brown one in the Dining room and took his. Often I would bring his sweater. He' laugh and say I'm always leaving it somewhere. I know Jimmy is looking down on his dear friend Bill. This dear man visited Jimmy everyday. Sat and had coffee with him took the time to listen to him. Took him to doctor app. Jimmy will never forget his two angels on earth. Rest easy dear friend.A song for you Jimmy. "Once in awhile" by Billy Dean.

We are so saddened to learn that Jim is gone. We got to know Jim 10 years ago as a neighbour in our condo.
There was a calmness about this guy. Whenever visiting with him he always had that smile on his face and a way of making you feel important and comfortable. An absolute treat to be around.
Then we learned the details of his war service. This ‘silent hero’ never talked about his experiences let alone brag about them. He was not looking for any public honour but certainly deserved that. All we could do was say ‘thank you Jim’.
He was one of those you meet along the way that etches a place in your thoughts and memories. Sadly missed.
