Clarence Dreger

Obituary of Clarence Frederick Dreger

DECEMBER 15, 1941 – MARCH 23, 2017 Clarence (Clancy) Frederick Dreger passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 23, 2017. Clancy was born on December 15, 1941 at the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, (which is now the Pasqua) to Frederick and Mary Dreger. They lived in Southern Saskatchewan, then to Weyburn where he completed high school. Clancy was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and he continued his faith until his passing. After graduation from high school, he moved to Thompson Manitoba to work for HBC. While in Thompson he went to a dance in Cypress River Manitoba in 1963, where he met Carlee Kenyon. After six dates, they married on April 4, 1964 and together they raised five sons. Clancy started in the fuel business with his father in law Tom at the BA station in Cypress River, moving to Holland and Neepawa, Manitoba with Gulf Oil, before starting Double C Enterprises, Dregers Gulf, in Langenburg, Saskatchewan in 1979. High interest rates and the sale of Gulf to Petro Canada resulted in this business ceasing operation. But this really turned out to be an opportunity for them both to go work for a new company, the Langenburg & District Activity Centre, a sheltered workshop for handicapped adults. Dad enjoyed working with his many special friends and truly enjoyed his time there working once again with Mom, until he retired in 2005. Dad enjoyed sports especially his beloved Roughriders and Montreal Canadiens. Growing up he played hockey and baseball, he always told us he was pretty good too! Mom and Dad both enjoyed camping and fishing and we all spent many days doing both. In 1985 they bought a cabin at Sandy Lake Manitoba which was their home away from home for many years. Dad really enjoyed his time there, and the many friends they had. Music was always a part of our lives, with Dad quite often using the lyrics of a song to express his feelings, although none of us can carry a tune or play a chord. Dad was always utilizing his carpenter skills by renovating our many homes, a necessary skill with all of our moves. Dad was thankful to the many people that helped him with his struggles. He was very proud of his sobriety since September 7, 1997 and we will all be forever grateful for Alcoholics Anonymous and the support that he received. Clancy was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary; son Kyle; in-laws Tom and Gladys Kenyon; brother Bob; sisters Shirley and Marlene; sister-in-law Lovane; many close friends; and recently special friend Darcy Swejda. Clancy leaves behind a large family to celebrate his life. His wife of almost 53 years Carlee (Kenyon); his sons Travis (Rae), Randy (Nicole), Ken (Farady) and Neal (Colleen); and their children, Brenden (Shannon), Kristy (Mat) and Kara-Lee, their mother Michelle; Amber and Aaron; Kirsten (Kent), Kelsey, Kendall; Tyler, Destiny and son Alexander, and Kyle. Also remaining to celebrate his life are many extended family and friends; in-laws; nieces and nephews; especially brother and sister-in-law Bob and Muriel Kenyon.
