Obituary of Diane Marie McAllister

DIANE MARIE McALLISTER (née MARCEAU) August 22, 1936 – April 8, 2017 Diane McAllister passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the age of 80 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Holorian and Bertha Marceau; in-laws, Herbert and Antonette McAllister; sister-in-law Rita Carroll; brothers-in-law, Art Carroll and Gordon Schwann. Diane is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard McAllister; son Mike (Cheryl) and their children, Shawn, Justin, and Nathan; son Paul (Kathy) and their children, Sam, Emilie, and Devin; daughter Jocelyn and her son Matthew (Mandy); daughter Marina (Lorne) and their children, Zack and Rachel Kellsey; great-grandsons, Shae and Kohwyn McAllister; extended great-grandchildren, Madi and Steven McAllister and Zuhkayda Tarala; brother Louis (Marge) Marceau; sister Heléne Marceau; sisters-in-law, Kay Schwann, Theresa (Dale) Davis, and Joan McAllister; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Diane was born in Gravelbourg, SK. She spent her formative years in the Trewdale district and her high school years at the Convent of Jesus and Mary in Gravelbourg. After high school, Diane took her nursing training at the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital, achieving her Registered Nurse diploma in 1959. She married Richard in October 1960 (the only couple allowed to be married in the chapel of the Convent of Jesus and Mary). In the spring of 1961, they moved to the farm at Rowatt, SK, where they lived for the next 56 years. With challenges and the grace of God, they raised good crops and a great family. Diane’s interests and passions included her family, friends, community, and volunteer work with children with autism, 25 years with the Kidney Foundation, and 10 years in the Palliative Volunteer Program. The family would love to thank Dr. Moinuddin, Dr. Ahmed, Dr. Vitelar, other physicians and staff on 3A and 3B at the Pasqua Hospital, the nursing staff at Regina General Hospital, and all the staff of the Palliative Home Care Program, especially Tessa and Diane’s private nurse Jan. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Martin de Porres Parish, 4720 Castle Road, Regina, SK on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Diane, may be made to the Palliative Program at the Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1A5 or the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 1-2217 Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 9Z9.
